The Seldom game and the appeal of rare answers.
Seldom is a daily trivia game built around finding correct answers that are less obvious. This page explains the idea and compares it with Rare Answer Game, our relaxed discovery game. Rare Answer Game is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Seldom.

How does the Seldom game work?
According to its published rules, players share a daily question and complete five answers. Each answer receives a base score from 0 to 100, with lower totals preferred. A zero-point answer is a special achievement. Prompts update at midnight UTC, and hints can add penalties.
These details are a summary of the official Seldom rules, checked on November 3, 2026. Refer to the original for current scoring and exceptions.
What makes a rare answer game different?
A conventional trivia question often has one target answer. An open category can have many. The interesting decision is which valid response is least likely to occur to someone else. An instrument used in a local musical tradition might feel obvious to you but be an unexpected response for another player.
Rarity depends on the question and the audience. It is not the same as a word being long, difficult to spell or unfamiliar in every context. A useful approach is to change the setting you imagine before changing the answer: a classroom, a family celebration and a concert can suggest different instruments.

Which should you play?
If you want the official Seldom challenge and its scoring system, use the official site linked above. Rare Answer Game is for a different mood: exploring five ideas without comparing a numeric total. It is a small preview, not a replacement for Seldom’s content or an authoritative test of knowledge.
Rare Answer Game’s New Discovery label does not mean that nobody knows an answer. It means the answer was added to your collection. Some examples have editorial labels, but we do not conduct a live 100-person survey.
How can I find less obvious answers?
Start with something that fits, then explore a narrower part of the category. Draw on places you have visited, activities you enjoy or things you have used. Before submitting, make sure a new spelling is not simply the same idea again.
